If you had a large mine field to cross in order to return to a place of safety, would you permit a blind man to lead you across the field? I do not allow myself to be guided and instructed by those who will not allow the holy scriptures to guide them in what they are to believe and to accept as truth.
There are countless millions who say they believe in God and believe that Jesus Christ was God’s Son and died as mankind’s Savior. But it seems there are very few who actually believe Jesus Christ – that He spoke utter truth in all the statements He made. I mean, how many really believe Jesus Christ spoke the absolute truth when He told His faithful followers that they could have whatsoever they asked the Father for in prayer? (See John 15:16). Of course He spoke such assurance only to those who “abide” in Him. (See John 15:7). To “abide” in Jesus Christ means that one continuously stays close to Jesus Christ, allowing their LORD to lead and guide them day in and day out. THAT is abiding in Christ. And it is only to that category of believer Jesus promises they shall have whatsoever they ask for in prayer believing. One who is abiding in Christ, allowing Jesus Christ to guide their thoughts and aspirations will not pray for a new Rolls Royce automobile, or to hit the lottery, or to fulfill some other worldly, fleshly passion.
But what about divine healing from some grave illness? Can one who abides in Christ ask to be healed without resorting to medical science to provide the healing they desire? In the past I worked in three different hospitals, one in Texas and two in Kentucky. I was a medical transcriptionist and typed up hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands of medical reports, e.g., surgical reports, medical reports, discharge and admittance summaries, etc. I know that things can go horribly wrong when human physicians and surgeons begin their treatment of the ill and suffering. I know it can be quite costly. Often families spend their entire life savings in the pursuit of medical help for some illness or injury, often to no avail.
It isn’t only unbelievers who reject the promises and assertions made in the scriptures. Many Christians reject God’s Word as well. Scripture assures the faithful believer that God not only forgives all our sins but, likewise, heals all our diseases! (See Psalm 103:3). Either that is true or it is not true. As I have pointed out before in several articles I have written on this subject, there IS one illness God will not heal even for the faithful believer, and that is one’s final illness. For if God healed each and every one of our illnesses, even our final illness, we would be immortal in the flesh and would live to be hundreds and hundreds of years old, dying only in accidents or some such calamities.
I have been healed time and again from many grave and debilitating illnesses – healed by faith in God alone expressed through believing prayer. I believe the One who has healed me six times will surely heal me seven. And if God has decreed this to be my final illness, that my life course is over and complete, then a thousand physicians and surgeons working around the clock will not be able to prevent my dying.
