- “And the apostles said unto the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.'” (See Luke 17:5). Jesus answer was quite revealing. Here is His answer: “And the Lord said, ‘If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea, and it should obey you.'” (Luke 17:6). Now since the mustard seed is a very tiny little seed some have falsely concluded that Jesus was saying it only takes a little bit of faith to produce a miracle. But that’s not what Jesus was saying at all. He was alluding to a different characteristic of the mustard seed, not its size.
The most astounding feature, or attribute, of the mustard seed is its hardiness, its ability to endure under the most difficult conditions. It can lack water or moisture of any kind for long periods of time. The sun can beat down on it unrelentingly. The temperature can drop and the weather turn bitterly cold. Still, the mustard seed once it has begun to sprout will continue to grow in a prodigious fashion. And, at last, a mustard plant will grow so large that Jesus said the birds of the air will come and lodge in its branches. (See Matthew 13:31-32). So, do you feel you need more faith in this trying time. Take Jesus’ advice – just hold on, just keep believing. Have faith in God.- Christ’s Aged Servant (Galatians 1:10-12),
